Cancer: Integration of TCM with concepts of conventional medical therapy
Introductory day on the integration of TCM therapy in the concept of conventional medical therapy for the treatment of cancer. Thomas Reis explains basic knowledge about the development and progression of cancers, possible risks of surgery, radiation therapy and drug-based cancer therapy and suggests a concept for treatment with TCM.
The treatment of cancer patients has undergone a major transformation in the past ten years - on the conventional medical side, new drugs are in use. Some cancers are curable, others are almost as deadly as they were thirty years ago, and others are becoming a chronic disease that can be stabilised for many years. Chinese medicine can play an important role in the treatment and support of those affected. Both before, during and after conventional medical treatments.
In order to be able to offer this support in a truly successful and appropriate manner, knowledge about the development and progression of cancers, basic medical knowledge of the possible risks of treatment and knowledge of the problems arising from surgery, radiotherapy and drug-based cancer therapy are needed, and finally a concept of how to proceed from the perspective of TCM.
Studied biochemistry and microbiology at the ETH Zurich. Subsequently worked in various positions in and for the pharmaceutical industry. Primarilyinvolved in clinical research and medical marketing in infectiology and oncology. Began training as a TCM therapist in Switzerland in 2000 with degrees in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and western herbal medicine according to TCM. Since 2008 he has been running his own practice focusing on oncology in Zurich.
